What is Kinesiotaping ?

Kinesiotaping, often referred to as “kinesiology tape” or simply “KT tape,” is a therapeutic method that involves applying a special elastic tape to the skin to provide support, reduce pain, and promote healing in various musculoskeletal conditions. The tape is made of cotton fibers with an adhesive backing that is designed to mimic the elasticity of human skin.



The primary goals of kinesiotaping include:

1. Supporting Muscles: The tape is applied in a way that supports and stabilizes muscles and joints without restricting the range of motion. This can be especially helpful for athletes and individuals recovering from injuries.

2. Improving Circulation and Lymphatic Flow: The tape is believed to lift the skin slightly, which may create more space between the skin and the underlying tissues. This space can potentially improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, facilitating the removal of excess fluids and reducing swelling.

3. Pain Reduction: Kinesiotape is thought to have a pain-relieving effect by providing sensory feedback to the skin and muscles. It may help alleviate discomfort associated with various conditions, including injuries, strains, and overuse.

4. Facilitating Movement: Unlike traditional athletic tape, kinesiotape is elastic and allows for a full range of motion. This makes it suitable for use during activities where flexibility is crucial.
